This hot tip identifies an unconfirmed bug when using the ‘copy scenario’ option with the Platespin Recon product and outlines a workaround.

1.0 Overview

This Xtravirt hot tip identifies a possible bug in the PlateSpin Recon 3.3 software when using the ‘Copy Scenario’ option.

2.0 Symptoms

When running Project Consolidation Scenarios, if you choose to copy an existing scenario by selecting the ‘Specify the number of servers’ option and then run this new scenario option, the amount of Hosts in the new report is doubled, e.g. If you choose to specify 6 servers and run the report the consolidation scenario will be done using 12 servers.

3.0 Cause

The cause of this problem is currently unknown and as this possible ‘bug’ has not yet been confirmed by PlateSpin a resolution has not been identified.

4.0 Workaround

The current workaround would be to create a new scenario each time instead of copying an existing one. Unfortunately when running many scenario options, the consequence is an increase in time and effort to generate new scenarios due to requiring a new one to be manually created each time.

NOTE: This has not been tested on Recon 3.5
