Information on why monitoring will not start when using the free Inventory version of PlateSpin Recon

1.0 Overview

This Xtravirt hot tip explains why it is not possible to use the monitoring feature when using the free inventory version of PlateSpin Recon.

2.0 Symptoms

After installing the free Inventory version of PlateSpin Recon you are unable to start monitoring even though you can perform an Inventory.

An error message may occur stating one of the following:

  • The license key does not allow you to perform this operation
  • There are no more hours remaining in your license(s)
  • Licenses have expired

3.0 Cause

The free version of Platespin Recon has the inventory functionality which allows you to monitor up to 100 servers free, however, it does not include the monitoring functionality for the ability to ‘Monitor’ servers.

4.0 Resolution

To enable the monitoring feature you would need to purchase the Project, Standard with or without Planning or the Virtual Infrastructure edition.
