This Xtravirt white paper provides key information relating to the process of upgrading VirtualVenter 2.5 to Update 4, and aims at providing guidance throughout the process.

Overview

This Xtravirt white paper provides key information relating to the process of upgrading VirtualVenter 2.5 to Update 4, and aims at providing guidance throughout the process.

Although VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 4 supports upgrading from VirtualCenter 1.4.1, VirtualCenter 2.0.2 (including Update 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5), VirtualCenter 2.5 (including Update 1, 2 and 3), this document details the upgrade process from VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 3.  Upgrades from earlier versions of VirtualCenter are beyond its scope.

Such upgrades have typically been very straight forward, however Update 4 introduces a Performance Overview Plug-in which requires some additional steps in order for it to operate correctly.

This document details the extended process and is based on an upgrade from the following installation type:

  • VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 3 (all components installed)
  • Local Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (Express, Standard or Enterprise)
  • Local License Server
  • Local VMware Infrastructue Client
