Professional regulatory body achieves new levels of agility with DR - Case Study

The customer

This organisation is the UK professional regulatory body for a specific section of healthcare professionals, committed to protecting patients and the public through efficient and effective regulation. With more than 685,000 members on the register, there are some 400 staff who fulfil the organisation’s activities from six offices in London and Cardiff.

The situation

  • Customer required disaster recovery (DR) solution for internal VDI desktops and servers during a data centre relocation
  • DR to be cloud-based, with protection for physical SQL and Exchange servers
  • Project to be completed within tight timeframe for a customer that outsources internal IT services to multiple organisations

Our approach

  • Performed discovery and assessment of existing environment
  • Defined project approach and designed architecture for vCloud Air and Horizon Air
  • Provisioned and integrated cloud environments including on-premise cloud networking
  • Replicated production workloads into the cloud, created cloud VDI image, and conducted DR tests

Outcomes achieved

  • Cloud DR solution provided the organisation with new levels of flexibility and cost control, together with rapid expansion capability. A key example was the request and provisioning of an additional 6TB of cloud storage within 24 hours
  • Data centre move successfully de-risked
